I went to SE Asia for awhile and everything was a surprise to me. I considered why it was a surprise and I remembered growing up on WW2 propaganda, bombing drills at school hiding under our desks. Every cartoon was how to spot the enemy and our dinner table was full of vets talking about these evil places and people. Then Nam came and there were no missing dogs in the 70's, in the 70's dogs were kidnapped and used in soup. My daddy would ride around with his hells angels buddies and throw bricks through store fronts or call the dept of fish and game to have these places shut down.

And I'm sitting there and finding nothing I heard about to be true. Not even one thing turned out to be true. I'm sure some of it was, but for me it was not.

Then I realized I'm old as shit and on the other side of the planet. I'm opening my apartment door quietly as possible so my neighbors wont see me take out the garbage, because when they do they think I'm too old to carry it and run to help me. When I ride my bike uphill, they come push me. People I don't know and have never seen before, or will see again.

It's a tough blow for someone who never showed them the least amount of kindness. No we didn't educate our kids about race, but at least we didn't mis-educate them.

They did a number on us. Playing records backwards in the church and all that stuff that sounds laughable today. Our indoctrination was 20 years.
